Crochet Poppy Patterns
CARLISLE CROCHET POPPY
by Tartan Gecko Looks difficult but is deceptively easy. See the gallery of sequenced photos below. Materials: Size 8 or H crochet hook Red yarn, a bit of black and a scrap color. (We used Red Heart "cherry" for the red) Darning or yarn needle Chain = Ch Single Crochet = SC Slip Stitch = slst With red yarn, chain 5 and join to create a loop, chain 1. (Experienced crocheters may choose to use a magic loop instead of chain 5). Make 8 SC into the loop. Slst into the top of the 1st stitch. (Close the loop if you used the magic loop method). Ch 1, another SC in the same stitch, and then 2 SC in each stitch, slst to 1st stitch. Repeat for about 5 rounds until your circle is 2 1/4" to 2 1/2". ( Photo 1). Ch 1, SC in each stitch, slst to 1st stitch. Repeat 4 more times to make the cup. ( Photo 2) Frills. Chain 1, 2 SC in each stitch. Slst to 1st stitch. Repeat this round for 2 rounds total. You will now see the edging has become really frilly. (Photo 3) Fasten off, and with needle weave yarn down to the center and close center hole if needed, leave a 12" tail. Black Center With black yarn chain 5 and join to create a loop (Or use the magic loop method instead of chain 5). (Photo 4) Make 8 SC into the loop. Slst into the top of the 1st stitch.. (Close the loop if you used the magic loop method). Ch 1 (this counts as 1 SC), 2 SC in next loop, then repeat [1 SC, 2 SC] to end. Slst to 1st stitch. [Ch 5 and then SC into each stitch back to the center, SC in next stitch on center], and then repeat to end.It will look like a weird starfish. (Photo 5) Fasten off, leaving a 12" tail.and sew into the center of the red cup. ( It is easier to turn the red cup inside out to do this, photo 6). Center: Using any color yarn Ch 5 and create a loop. Ch 1, SC 8 into loop, slst into top of 1st stitch. Repeat 2 more times to create a small cup. Fasten off, leave a 12" tail. (Photo 7). ASSEMBLY (photo 8 & 6) Turn the poppy inside out. Thread the colored ruff (cupside up or down if down, close it up a little with the yarn end to make a ball) through the black center (curling arms face up) and attach to the center of the red poppy. Flip the poppy cup back inside. (Photo 8). |
